Lagos Taskforce clarifies arrest of lady along BRT corridor

CITIZENS COMPASS– The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offenses (Enforcement) Unit (Taskforce) on Tuesday, said its officials were not involved in the arrest of a lady along the corridor of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), along Anthony inward Ketu area of the State.

The Taskforce was reacting to a viral video which captured the arrest made by some unidentified men in uniform.

Spokesperson of the Taskforce in a statement clarified that, “The Lagos State Taskforce wishes to address a misleading narrative circulating on social media through a viral video concerning an unidentified lady who was apprehended for driving on the BRT lane by unknown policemen (not officials of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit) along Anthony inward Ketu, Lagos.

“It is important to clarify that the Lagos State Taskforce had no involvement in the unfortunate extortion of the lady or her mother. Available records show that we currently do not have any offices, garages, or car parks at Ketu, and no team was assigned to man the BRT corridor at the time of the incident. LAMATA-BRT has its own Monitoring and Enforcement Team responsible for overseeing activities on BRT corridors.

“Any attempt to link the enforcement, arrest, and subsequent extortion of the lady to Lagos State Environmental Taskforce officials is completely baseless, untrue, and misleading.

“The agency enjoins the general public to note that not all policemen wearing tactical jackets on the road are attached to the “Lagos State Environmental Taskforce. Our officials are identified by unique identification numbers. However, we encourage anyone with credible complaints against any of our officials to come forward with evidence for proper investigation and identification.

“The Lagos State Taskforce enforces the law with professionalism, civility, decorum, and due process, ensuring that all arrests are carried out humanely and that every enforcement by the Agency culminates in court for adjudication.

“We urge the public to refrain from spreading falsehoods about the agency and to always obey traffic regulations to prevent avoidable incidents.”
