
Lagos Taskforce arrests 20 suspects in Gowon Estate
…Uncover Colorado, Indian hemp, others
CITIZENS COMPASS– The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offenses (Enforcement) Unit (Taskforce), on Thursday, said it has arrested 20 suspects during a raid of Gowon Estate, in the Egbeda area of the State.
Until their arrests, the suspects were said to be engaging in various criminal activities.
During the operation, Taskforce officers uncovered a disturbing cache of illicit substances, including Colorado, Indian hemp, narcotic drugs, and other controlled substances wrapped with Nigerian currency. In addition, some POS Operators in the area are also using the business as a means to further promote the illicit drug business, using denominations of ₦200 and ₦500 which were eventually seized for being used to hide the illicit drugs. This further underscoring the severity of the criminal activities being perpetuated in the area.
The Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements endangering the peace and serenity of the citizenry. He stated:
“This operation reflects our zero-tolerance policy against illegal activities that threaten the peace and security of our communities. The suspects will face the full weight of the law as investigations continue. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to authorities using our ‘See Something, Say Something’ initiative.”
The Lagos State Taskforce under the leadership of CSP Adetayo Akerele, remains committed to fostering a safe and secure environment for all citizens. The Taskforce urges the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure a crime-free society.
The operation which.was carried out on 31 road, Wole Omo-Osho Street, Idoani Street and Egbeda Market areas in Gowon Estate was the third in the series of operations carried out by Lagos State Taskforce in the area to restore orderliness and a drugs free Society. All the Suspects have been charged to court for prosecution.
