Lagos recovers body of man who jumped from Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge
CITIZENS COMPASS – IN what could be described as a joint efforts, emergency responders in Lagos on Thursday, August 10, 2023, recovered the body of a man who jumped from Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge into the lagoon.
The body was revovered in the afternoon after search and rescue efforts by Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
Confirming the recovery, the Director of the Fire Service, Margaret Adeseye said, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service can authoritatively report that the body of one adult male that jumped into the lagoon on Tuesday afternoon, August 8, 2023 from Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge has been recovered, today.
” The search and rescue operations began in earnest immediately the alert of the incident was received at 14:53 hours culminated into the recovery of the body today by 09:15 hours at the LASEMA end of the lagoon bank.
” The collaborative efforts include that of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Waterways Authority, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos State Health, Environmental Monitoring Unit and the locals to foreclose the joint operations.”
In his situation reports, LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said,” The Agency responded to a distress call at the above location and gathered from passers-by that an adult male had jumped into the lagoon.
“Efforts to stop him were unsuccessful as he escaped from being restrained and jumped into the lagoon.
” LASWA officials were immediately alerted of the incident. Rescue attempt were abortive and the body of the unidentified adult male has been recovered and bagged by the agency’s LRT.
” Awaiting the arrival of SEHMU to evacuate the body from the incident scene.”
