Lagos jails 27 miscreants for converting pedestrian bridges to homes
CITIZENS COMPASS —The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) popularly known as KAI has apprehended and secured the prosecution of 27 miscreants for offences bordering on breach of peace and unlawful conversion of government property
They were arrested on Friday, February 23, 2024.
The Corps Marshal of the Agency, Major Olatunbosun Olaniyi Cole (Rtd) made this disclosure at the Agency’s Command Headquarters, Bolade-Oshodi. He said, ‘‘the recent prosecution of these criminally-minded individuals is a testament to the resolve of KAI to ensure that there is total compliance to entrenching pedestrians’ safety across major highways in Lagos and we are determined to chase after them until the last person’’.
The enforcement exercise whicj was carried out in syndicated raids on the Oshodi, Ladipo, PWD, Bolade, National pedestrian bridges resulted in the arrests. He further revealed that the now-convicted suspects were arraigned before Chief Magistrate S.A Adefioye on a two-count charge of conducting themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace and unlawful conversion for use of government property by occupation which are offences punishable under Section 168(1)(d) and Section 348(1) of the Criminals Laws of Lagos State 2015 as they were found guilty as charged and sentenced to five months in jail on Friday.
Cole declared that there will be no hiding place for miscreants fond of dispossessing pedestrians’ of their valuables as operatives of the Agency stationed across the pedestrian bridges have been continuously mandated to ensure voluntary compliance just as he advised them to make appropriate use of the bridges for safety to avoid being hit by speeding motorists on the highway.
