Lagos CP rewards Igando DPO, eight others, for hard work

CITIZENS COMPASS – FOR risking their lives to burst a robbery syndicate, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Omohunwa, has rewarded the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Ekeinde Ohomoba and eight others in the State.
The CP on Thursday, May 25, 2023, presented Certificates of Commendation and cash prizes to the officers at the Officer’s Mess, Ikeja.
Other officers who were recognised with the Igando DPO included DSP Nureni usman, Inspector Olukayode Benson and Inspector Steven Nnamadi among others.
Presenting the certificates and cash prizes, was to inspire the officers for their dedication to duties not minding the risks involved.
He said, the Commendation is to inspire our officers who have demonstrated exceptional operational capability, zeal and professionalism in their quest to inject life into policing strategies in Lagos State.
” We find it expedient to invite you as we commend some officers from Igando Division today.”
While mentioning some of the operations that led to the Commendation, the CP said, ” It will be recalled that on 22st May, 2023, at about midnight, the Aea Commander and Divisional Police Officer, Igando, received a distress call from members of the public, about an ongoing armed robbery operation.
” The armed robbers who were four in number, have already robbed two vehicles and had also robbed another one with which they moved to Igando.
On their way, they robbed Citizens and descended on a beer parlour, robbing citizens around the facility at Igando.
” As soon as the information was passed to the Police, the DPO deployed his team at that time of the day, and they succeeded in arresting the four armed robbers and recovered some weapons and two vehicles which they were operating with.
” On searching the suspects, a tota of 20 mobile phones were recovered. So far, four vehicles linked to the robbery were recovered.
” Withing the context of policing, this act of DPO and his officers in risking their lives to confront the armed robbers shouid be appreciated.
” To go for operations at that hour of the night, shows their dedication to duty. It also shiws courage, sacrifice, and commitment of Lagos State Police Command to always respond to such operations regardless of the hours at nights not minding the risks involved.
” Within the context of Force Order 68 of the Nigeria Police, their demonstration of gallantry may attract special recognition, and today, I have decided to bring them out, to commend their efforts and recognise their gallantry meritorious dedication to duty.
” Am glad to welcome you to join me.
The award is not only issuance of Certificates of Commendation, in line with the provision of Force Order 68 of the Nigeria Police, it will also come with monetary reward.” said the CP.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the event, CSP Ekeinde Ohomoba who spoke on behalf of the recipients said the award will spur them on. He said, ” This is the first time a Lagos CP will commend our efforts. We are very happy. ”
