Lagos continues removal of illegal extensions in markets

CITIZENS COMPASS—Lagos State Government has continud the removal of illegal market extensions across markes in Lagos Island.

This is to ensure safety, orderliness, and opening up of the free flow of traffic in the axis.

Recall that fire fighting trucks recently got stuck on their way to extinguish the fire within Docemo as a result of the illegal extensions by traders.

The trucks got stuck when some buildings were razed prompting the state government to order the removal of the illegal extensions.

However, many of the traders flouted the order and gradually returned the illegal extensions.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a post on his X Handle over the weekend, said the State Government has continued the removal of the illegal extensions.
According to him, “The illegal extensions removed before were rebuilt by the defaulters.”

He said a combined effort of law enforcement jointly carried out the removal.

“A combined team of the Special Duties, Physical Planning, Ministry of Environment @LasgMOE, Urban Development, LASTMA, LASBCA, LNSC, KAI, CBD, LASURA, Lagos Fire Service, NPF.

“This operation is part of the recommendations of the Docemo Fire Incident Committee led by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Gbenga Oyerinde.”
