
Lagos building collapse: Death toll rises to seven
CITIZENS COMPASS– The death toll of a collapsed building at Number 10, Oremera Street, Ojodu-Berger, Lagos State has risen to seven.
Citizens Compass reported that the collapse occurred on Saturday at about 8a.m and rescue operations have since commenced.
So far, 15 persons have been rescued including the store keeper of the building.
Until the collapse, the building housed a restaurant.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other emergency agencies were on ground after receiving distress calls.
On Saturday, two bodies were recovered from the rubbles with additional three on Sunday and two more bodies on Monday making the death toll a total of seven.
On Monday, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) on its official platform said, “The death toll in the three-storey building collapse in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos has risen to seven.
“The number of casualties increased after two more bodies were recovered under the rubbles on Monday afternoon.
“The clearing of debris is still ongoing at the site of the incident.”
