CITIZENS COMPASS —For assaulting a personnel of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) popularly known as KAI, a lady identified as Esther Olusola has been given an option to pay the sum of ₦75,000 fine or face four months imprisonment.
Esther’s ordeal began on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, after obstructing pedestrian rules by crossing the highway rather than using the pedestrian bridge in the Ile-Epo/Oke-Odo area of the State.
It was gathered that upon her arrest, she swooped on the personnel assaulting and molesting them.
God so good, she was overpowered, arrested and charged to a Mobile Court where the Chief Magistrate, SA Adefioye gave her the options.
Recall that the Corps Marshal of the Agency, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole,
has been emphasising the need for pedestrians to make use of pedestrian bridges and to also desist from selling or display their wares on walkways, lay byes and set backs meant for pedestrians
Citizens Compass reported that in March 2024, 17 miscreants were apprehended and subsequently convicted by a Lagos Magistrate Court sitting in Bolade-Oshodi for converting pedestrian bridges in Lagos to sleeping areas and causing intentional damage to polycarbonate roofing sheets meant to protect pedestrians from sunshine and rain when using the bridges for their safety in the stead of crossing highways.
The Corps Marshal said there is no alternative than to obey and abide by the state Environmental Laws 2010 as amended.
