Labour Party candidate visits scene of fire disaster in Lagos

...calls for discreet investigations

CITIZENS COMPASS- THE Governorship candidate of Labour Party in Lagos State, Gbedebo Rhodes – Vivour has visited the scene of fire outbreak at the auto spare parts market, Akere Market in Kirikiri and Ajegunle area of the state.

The candidate calmed the affected traders calling on Lagos State Police Command to do proper investigation and unravel the truth about the incident.

Citizens Compass reports that a fire outbreak occurred in the wee hours of Wednesday, March 8, 2023 in the market where a male adult was recovered dead.

Few hours after the fire was put out, a trending video surfaced online where a background female voice attributed the cause of the inferno to the work of some yet-to-be identified arsonists .

The voice claimed that the adult male that was recovered dead was that of a security guard who pleaded with the suspected arsonists not to set the market ablaze.

However, she claimed that the suspected arsonists allegedly killed the security guard alive and thereafter set the market ablaze.

Millions of Naira worth of auto spare parts were lost to the inferno which has been generating comments from Nigerians.

Irked by the incident, Gbadebo has visited the scene of the incident to identify with the traders.

The Governorship candidate on his Tweeter handle posted thus,

I am on the ground in Akere Market, Ifelodun to assess the damage done by a fire allegedly set by an arsonist & political thugs.

“This is most unfortunate. Our politics should be about ideas, not violence.

“Ajegunle people, do not be intimidated. We will rebuild together.

“Lagos is built on harmony and cooperation, it is the center of excellence, despicable violence & fanning the flames of ethnic tension has no place in this beautiful state.

“We all have to live together in Lagos after the elections. No political ambition is worth the lives or livelihood of our people.

“No place should be threatened or destroyed for having differing political choices. It breaks my heart to see this happen in Lagos, it must end.”
