KVP, ICCI trains 70 women entrepreneurs in Lagos

CITIZENS COMPASS – The Ikorodu Chamber of Commerce and Industry(ICCI) women group in partnership with Chamberpartnership Project(KVP) Germany, on Thursday, trained 70 Small and Medium-sized Enterprises((SME’s) women in Ikorodu.
The Citizens Compass reports that the KVP women in business training series was themed,” Navigating Legal and Regulatory Issues’: Understanding Business Regulations, Legal compliance, and Securing Necessary Permits.”
Speaking at the training, Mr Olutele Oduloye, President of ICCI, urged women organisations to advocate for more female involvement in business to encourage and boost their productivity as a good manager in the society.
Oduloye advised the women entrepreneurs to register their businesses to access benefits from government and international donors. He said, “This kind of training will enlighten them more on best practices to enhance their business ideas.
“They should register their businesses to access different kinds of benefits from the government and individuals,” he said.
Earlier in her address, Dr Kirsten Albrecht, KVP Project Director, said the training was organised to teach entrepreneurs on what they need to know to ensure they were successful in their businesses.
Albrecht, said that the training was essential to also enlighten them on the regulation governing their businesses, hindrances and foundation training that would give them ideas and creativity to excel.
However, she advised the chamber to engage in more advocacy to attract more women so that they can have a better business environment, abreast with rules and regulations governing their businesses.
“The more members the chamber has, the stronger is their voice towards the government and do better on their business.
“The chamber can organise training and consultancy like this to help other women entrepreneurs do better.
“I think this idea can impact positively and make Nigeria economy to be diversified, when the economy is diversified, it become stronger, she said
Similarly, Mrs Helen Tabunor-Ogedegbe, bilingual consultant, calls on the government to tackle multiple taxation to encourage more women entrepreneurs in Nigeria.
Tabunor-Ogedegbe, also urged members to properly regulate their business and registered to have access to different opportunities and advised the government to identify with women chambers of commerce and other women organisations.
In her remarks, Mrs Stella Akande, Coordinator of KVP Project in Ikorodu said that the training has enlightened entrepreneurs on the importance of registering their business with the Corporate Affairs Commission(CAC) and taxation.
“Those people are toying with taxes, know that paying tax is very important, even if producing and not making profit, they need to file.
“They have knowledge now on how to pay their tax as at when due to avoid penalty.
“When you join the chamber, you will have access to loans and grants, we help members develop their product to standard for exportation and many other benefits, she said.
