Jimi Benson distributes 600 bags of fertilizer to Ikorodu farmers

CITIZENS COMPASS –A lawmaker, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr Babajimi Adegoke Benson (APC-Lagos), on Tuesday, distributed 600 bags of fertilizers free to registered farmers in Ikorodu constituency.
The Lawmaker, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Defence, said the fertilizer distribution was part of efforts by the federal government to ensure increased productivity and food security for Nigerians.
He was represented by Mr Deen Sanwoola, Director General, I-care Foundation, who said the gesture was meant only for crop farmers as plans are underway for poultry farmers in the next distribution phase.
“We are supporting the farmers in line with the FG agenda on food security, with this, prices of food commodities will crash tremendously,” he said.
Earlier, Mr Idris Bello, who represented the farmers had enlightened them on the benefits of applying fertilizer on their farm and its purpose.
He said that fertilizers are of two classes which are micro and macro dilating and therefore urged the farmers not to sell but to use it appropriately for its purpose.
“The fertilizer is a combination of Nitrogen Potassium and phosphorus very good for soil fertility that will increase our farm produce
“I acknowledge the lawmaker for his passion and optimistic in ensuring availability of food to his people,” he said.
Mr Ojuoluwa Abass, one of the beneficiaries commended the kind gesture of the lawmaker adding that the fertilizer would contribute significantly and increase the farm output.
He urged others not to give up but contribute to the Nation’s food basket.
“We should be faithful and diligent on our promises to encourage the lawmaker to do more,” he said.
Mrs Adefunke Esan, Chairperson of Lion’s club International District 404, sensitised the farmers on causes of cholera and prevention.
