INEC rejects petition to recall Natasha
CITIZENS COMPASS– The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, rejected the petition seeking to recall the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
In a statement posted on its official X Handle formerly known as Twitter, INEC stated:
“The petition for the recall of the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District has not met the requirement of Section 69(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).”
Citizens Compass reported that the Senator recently visited her hometown where she was received by a mammoth crowd which defied the curfew imposed by the state government.
During the visit, the Senator boldly declared that nobody could stop her from visiting her people.
INEC said the petition failed to meet the constitutional requirements.
In a statement issued on Thursday, it said that after reviewing the petitioners’ signatures and thumbprints, the numbers fell short of the threshold outlined in Section 69(a) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
