Important information for Ikeja Electric customers
CITIZENS COMPASS — Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IE) has announced that only customers who have linked their National Identity Numbers (NIN) to their meters by November 1, 2023, will receive the required two sets of 20-digit energy tokens to access power in their homes.
The DisCo made the announcement on Thursday on its X account formerly Twitter.
Ikeja Electric said this becomes necessary to improve the security and efficiency of the electricity distribution system.
It warned that customers who failed to abide by the directive would not be able to access tokens for energy more than once.
It reads, “Dear Esteemed Customer, Effective November 1, 2023, only customers who have linked their NIN will receive two sets of 20-digit tokens required to load energy tokens.

The process of linking the NIN to meters is said to be free of charge, while customers who have already linked their NIN to their meters are not required to repeat the process.
“The landlord’s NIN is the first choice to be linked as the owner of the property.
“However, tenants can also undertake this task, but they are limited to linking only one meter with the option to unlink when vacating the property,” it added.
