Impeached LG chair regains freedom from prison
CITIZENS COMPASS —The impeached chairman of the Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, Mr Adewale Adedayo, has regained his freedom after spending about 48 hours at the Ibara Correctional Centre in Abeokuta.
He was bailed on Thursday, September 28, 2023.
Adedayo was arraigned on Tuesday by the police over the allegation that he defamed the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun.
Following his arraignment on two counts before the state’s magistrates’ court in Isabo, he was admitted to N2m bail with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate, Adejoke Araba, however, ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of the bail conditions.
Our correspondent gathered on Thursday that Adedayo finally met the bail conditions and regained his freedom.
The embattled LG boss, who was first suspended and later impeached by some of the local government lawmakers, had about a month ago accused Governor Abiodun of diverting funds and interventions meant for local governments in the state in the last three years.
He alleged that the governor diverted up to N10.8bn meant to develop 20 local governments in the state.
Prior to his arraignment on Tuesday, Adedayo had earlier been detained by the Ogun State Command of the Department of the State Services on the complaint of the governor.
