Ikorodu LG presents N2.01bn budget for 2023

CITIZENS COMPASS HONOURABLE Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina , Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government in Lagos State, on has presented a budget proposal of N2. 010 billion for 2023 , to the council’s legislature for approval.
The presentation took place on Thursday, January 2, 2023.
Presenting the budget tagged, “Foster Local Economic Development”, the chairman said the council hoped to receive N560.47million federal allocation , N1.305billion from VAT and N105 million from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and State Coordinated Revenue of N40 million.
On expenditure, the chairman said N230million would be spent on personnel costs (council’s staff),N230 million on teachers’ salaries while N82,72 million would be spent on allowances of political office holders.
According to him, N713,43million is earmarked for pension,N129.4million for local government teachers’ pension , and N18million is earmarked for severance allowances.
Adesina said N204.518 million was allocated to capital expenditure and social service expenditure.
The council boss told the legislators that the 2023 budget proposal was geared towards executing robust development projects,for the betterment of Ikorodu.
He promised to rejig the security architecture of the local government to ensure peace and secure environment “where people can sleep with their two eyes closed.”
The council boss urged the legislature to speedily pass the budget to enable him kickstart projects outlined in the budget.
“This ceremony is in compliance with the present legislative dispensation which makes it compulsory for executive arm to present budget to the legislature for approval.
“It is important to remind you that it is our social duty to be responsive to the yearnings of our communities in areas of infrastructural development.
“Environmental sanitation, maintenance of peace and harmony, provision of adequate security of lives and property and revenue generation,among others,” he said.
He appealed to residents to go out en masse to collect their Permanent Voter Cards and vote for candidates of All Progressive Congress(APC) ,including presidential candidate , Sen. Bola Tinubu, and Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu
Mr Adebowale Ajayi,Leader of the House, promised that they would live up to expectations by enacting laws that would promote the socio-economic development of the local government.
Ajayi added that the House had contributed immensely to the development of Ikorodu through legislation ,giving legal backing to the council’s programmes and activities.
“As usual we shall not fail in our duties to meticulously look at the details of the budget for the benefit of Ikorodu.
“Let me assure you that this House through effective oversight function will ensure that year 2023 budget delivers on its promises to stimulate the economic growth.
“We are ready to partner with the executive to achieve all its goals and targets of taking Ikorodu to the next level of development”, he said.
Citizens Compass reports that official vehicle was presented to the Vice chairman, Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, shortly after the ceremony.
The vice chairman thanked the council boss and promised to use the vehicle is facilitate her work in the council.
“I am overwhelmed, and I promise to use the vehicle for the purpose it was meant for,” she said.
