Ikorodu LG partners NGO on inter-school competition

CITIZENS COMPASS –The Chairman of Ikorodu  Local Government, Lagos State, Mr Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, on Friday, said that the council would partner with a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Kaodwad and Associates, on annual inter-school debate competition for public secondary schools in Ikorodu.

He made the promise during the inauguration of an11-member committee to oversee the 2nd edition of the competition at the council secretariat in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Citizen Compass reports that the maiden edition was held in 2022, while the competition could not hold the subsequent year.

The council boss said the competition was a significant step in promoting educational excellence and fostering a culture of healthy intellectual competition among students in the LGA.

“The debate competition will enhance public speaking abilities and prepare students for future leadership roles.

“It will also equip them with essential communication skills and make them compete favourably with their counterparts in other schools.

“I urge the committee to collaborate and work diligently to achieve an exceptional and standard competition,”he said.

The chairman promised to provide support and called on philanthropists to participate in ensuring a successful outcome among the participants.

Earlier, Mr Mohammed Anjola, secretary and Programme officer of the NGO,   commended the council chairman on his unwavering support as well as making education a top priority of  his administration.

He said that the idea of the association was to give back to the public through empowerment, skill acquisition with a vision to create opportunities for youths to stand the test of time.

According to him, the  competition has impacted the lives of students, promoted educational excellence and changed their mindset to pursue a career in education.

“We collaborate with the Ikorodu Local government to give back to youths especially on education.

“This year’s edition is going to be better having taken into consideration every challenge encountered during the maiden edition.

Mr Lateef Afinni and Anjola  were appointed as chairman and co-chairman of the committee while nine others were members.
