CITIZENS COMPASS—The Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government Area (LGA), in Lagos State, Mr Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, on Friday, flagged-off the construction of 160-metre two- side drainage system at Tayo Mohammed street beside cemetery.

The Citizens Compass reports that the chairman also flagged-off interlocking paving stones at Sabo market scheduled to be completed in 12 weeks with installation of street lights to illuminate the area.

He said that the projects became necessary to alleviate the suffering of residents, have easy access to the main road, mitigate erosion and curtail insecurity in the community area.

“Today we are flagging off construction of a two-side drainage system and will commence the surfacing immediately with street lights.

“We have indentified the link roads in all areas of Ikorodu LGA starting from Itundegun, Ajino, Itunmoja and other axis.

“The local government is going to embark on construction of all the two side drainages with street light to make the communities decent,” he said.

The council boss appealed to the residents to cooperate with the contractors for smooth and effective service delivery to meet-up with time specified for the completion of the projects.

However, he said the project would be handed over to community leaders and the Community Development Association(CDA) to take ownership for proper maintenance so that it would last long.

According to the chairman, the council is working out arrangements with some Tech companies to digitalise the cemetery operation so that residents can access information about their dead ones via online.

Adesina said that there was plan to also train 100 women on fashion designing skill adding that best 20 out of the participants would be empowered with starting grants before his administration winds down.

Adesina hailed President Bola Tinubu on the LG autonomy and commended Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for given them the free hand to embark on capital projects for residents to enjoy dividends of democracy.

He advised residents to shun any form of violence and distance themselves from joining any protest adding that the current administration was on the track of putting the country on the right path.

“We are working on digilising our cemetery, very soon we will rollout the plans.

“We should all support the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal government and not join any group of people to protest.

Also speaking, Kazeem Olokunola, Baale of the community thanked the council chairman for bringing such project to their domain adding that it would alleviate the suffering of residents plying the road.

Olokunola assured the chairman of his support and urged others who were interested in contesting for the position to learn and emulate his leadership style.

“I thank the chairman for addressing our challenges in our community in fulfillment of his campaign promises,” he said.
