CITIZENS COMPASS — Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government in Lagos State has distributed free General Certificate of Examination(GCE) forms for 100 students.
The 100 forms were distributed at the council secretariat in Ikorodu, Lagos.
The Citizen Compass reports that the chairman also distributes marker boards, dusters and writing markers to all the 16 primary schools to enhance learning and teaching in the classroom.
“In an effort to improve education in our local government, every year we present free GCE forms to secondary school students.
“This year we distributed classroom markers to primary schools to discourage the use of blackboards and start the use of white board markers.
” I appeal to students to be more serious with their studies to excel in their exams to enable us support them to their higher levels,” he said.
The council chairman promised to establish computer units in all the primary schools to enable both teacher and pupils to get trained and acquire modern knowledge in computers.
Earlier, Mr Shamsudeen Longe, the GCE form coordinator urged parents of all the beneficiariew to enrol their children for extra lesson to boost their knowledge adding the registration has been completed only for them to prepare for exams.
Also speaking, the traditional ruler of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, represented by Kayode Olomo, Baale of Ojogbe advised parent to desist from registering their children in special centre to make results they can not defend in higher institution
Also speaking, Prince Rotimi Ogunleye, former Commissioner for physical planning in Lagos state advised students to make use of the opportunities and urged philanthropists in Ikorodu to support education.
Miss Onifade Mariam, who spoke on behalf of the students, promised not to disappoint their parents but to put in their best and thanked the chairman for his kind gesture.
Present at the event were; All Progressive Congress (APC) party chieftains, Mrs Folashade Olabanji- Oba, Vice chairman Ikorodu LG, Mrs Bukola Osho, iyaloja of Ikorodu central and Mr Saanu Shipe, Council Manager among others.
