CITIZENS COMPASS – Lagos State Police Command has revealed how it burst a kidnaper’s den in Isiu area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Spokesperson of the command, Benjamin Hundeyin disclosed this to journalists on Saturday, April 8, 2023 while displaying exhibits recovered from the scene.
Citizens Compass had reported that the Police uncovered a kidnapper’s den in Isiu area of Ikorodu where two victims were rescued.
It was learnt that the kidnappers engaged Police in a gun duel but one of them sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead while another escaped the scene.
On Good Friday, the command displayed the recovered items to journalists at Police headquarters in Ikeja.
Hundeyin said, ”
They (kidnappers) envisaged that the police might be involved and they laid ambush. We envisaged that there might be ambush and we prepared for counter ambush.
” There was a gun duel after which one of the kidnappers was injured and we rushed him to the hospital where he was later confirmed dead.
Escape
” The other escaped the scene but while escaping, he dropped a fire arm and four live cartridges and we were able to recover three phones from the scene.
” Good enough, two of the phones belong to the kidnappers and we have commenced forensic analysis on the phones.
” We have very interesting leads we are working on.” He said.
How we were kidnapped – Victim
One of the rescued victims whose identity could not be disclosed for security purposes said he was working at a poultry farm with his colleagues when two of them were kidnapped.
The victims were receiving treatment in the hospital but one of them who narrated his ordeal said: ‘
We were six in number, arranging eggs in their crates to supply, then the kidnappers arrived and took the driver and I to the forest.
” ‘They demanded a ransom of N20m which was discounted to N10m.
‘ ‘They tied our faces, beating us and using cutlasses on our body.
‘ ‘All of a sudden, my boss called them that the money was ready and they should come and collect it.
‘ ‘Two of them were assigned to come and collect the money.’ ‘ said the kidnapped victim.
