How Obasa’s impeachment divides Governance Advisory Council

CITIZENS COMPASS– The recent impeachment of the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has caused division among members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State.

This indication emerged on Tuesday.

The GAC members on Monday held a meeting behind closed doors over the impeachment but it was learnt that the gathering could not reach a logical conclusion as two of the members vehemently opposed the impeachment saying it lacked merit.

GAC is the highest decision-making body of the Party in Lagos.

Before the GAC meeting, rumours making the rounds said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had issued a directive about reinstatement of the impeached Speaker but this was debunked in a statement.

Citizens Compass learnt that the GAC meeting examined various factors about replacing Obasa with his deputy, Mojisola Meranda who hailed from the Lagos Central like the sitting governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu whereas, the Lagos West where Obasa hailed from was supposed to have presented a candidate to complete the tenure.

It was gathered that the crisis if not well handled may cause major cracks in APC in Lagos.

Citizens Compass reports that Obasa is likely to be compensated with a federal government’s appointment.

The GAC is under the leadership of Prince Tajudeen Olusi.
