CITIZENS COMPASS– A popular hotelier, Mr Kunle Akinyele, has reportedly slumped and died during the 60th birthday thanksgiving of his wife, Catherine Akinyele.
Citizens Compass learnt that the incident occurred in Egbeda area of Lagos State on Saturday.
A viral video captured the moment the man slumped and died while on the pulpit.
The deceased dressed in a regalia was seen holding a microphone singing and dancing.
Before he died, the elated celebrant moved closer to the man and whispered into his ears.
Few minutes later, he carefully dropped the microphone and the next was slumped and died.
Co-worshippers standing with the man were seen rallying round him all to no avail.
The incident, which surfaced on X Handle and Facebook has generated reactions from social media users.
Some send warnings to people not to joke with their health while many sympathise with the family.
Many described the moment as both “shocking” and “heartbreaking,” with some reflecting on the unpredictability of life.
A Facebook user, @Jide Azaid said, “The woman kept coming and whispering into his ears. He even requested for water before he slumped. Too much stress and pressure on an old man during social events can be deadly. I hate social parties. If I must organize a social event, I always make sure that I attend as a guest. Ushers and Caterers must be paid to do their jobs.”
@Will Emeka said, “Oh mehn! So sad. May his soul rest in peace.”
Dr Akeem Balogun said, “Every soul shall taste death when the time comes no one can stop it not even the best Doctor in World. May Almighty God count him among the righteous ones ans forgive him.”
@Chigozie said, “On his wife’s birthday Thanksgiving this kind of gift is not acceptable chaiiiiii God please have mercy upon his wife and children”
@Ekene_Chigozie: “Always check your Blood pressure.”
@iamizuogu: “Another landlady added. After men worked themself out they will never live to eat fruit of their labor. It’s sad landlady everywhere.”
A video of Mr and Mrs Akinyele before the event kicked off captured the man and wife posing for photographs.
Mr Akinyele who was in high spirit was seen asking the celebrant why they did not switch on a generating set despite that there was power outage.
He was assured that the generating set would be switched on.
Power was later restored as they were talking the photographs.
