Hoodlums invade Catholic church, disrupt PVC registration exercise in Lagos
CITIZENS COMPASS– SUSPECTED thugs on Friday, invaded St. Bridget Catholic church, chased away some members and disrupted the ongoing permanent Voter’s Registration, exercise in Lagos.
The church was located in Ijesha, Surulere area.
The thugs were said to have carted away the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Continuous Voter Registration machines.
This occured in the afternoon, few hours before the CVR’s closure by INEC.
Following the incident, the Parish Priest locked up the church while people scampered for safety.
An eyewitness who identified herself as Princess Okojie Igbemudia said the thugs stormed the church and disrupted the exercise because those registering will vote for Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
It was learnt that the police had been deployed to the area to ensure peace and orderliness.
A viral video in the social media revealed tension in the environment as the church members scampered for safety while a background voice was heard lamenting the situation, “This is St. Bridget Catholic Church where PVC registration exercise supposed to take place but to our greatest surprise, thugs disrupted the exercise saying we are likely to vote for Peter Obi.
Is this how we will fold our hands ? Is this what we will continue to face ? Are we not supposed to take the country back …?
Reacting, SO Be Jane. Hundeyin, Spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command said hoodlums did not invade the church and the INEC officials were not assigned to the church.
