Hardship: Council distributes 2000 food packs to vulnerable households in Ikorodu

CITIZENS COMPASS —The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State, Mr Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, on Thursday, March 28, 2024, distributed 2000 food packs to vulnerable households in Ikorodu and urged Muslims to imbibe the spirit of giving.
The distribution took place during the eighth edition of an annual Ramadan lecture organised by the Iradatulahi Islamic Society of Nigeria (IRADAT) Ikorodu, at the local government secretariat.
The lecture had the theme: “The Significance of Five Pillars of Islam”.
Citizens Compass reports that the food packs were made up of rice and garri.
Beneficiaries were selected across the wards and different groups like the artisans, market women and youths.
According to the chairman, the idea was to alleviate the suffering and cushion the effect of fuel subsidies on Ikorodu residents especially those who were fasting.
“This is the eight edition of the Ramadan lecture in Ikorodu Local Government, we give all glory to Almighty Allah.
“This is a platform where sermons and teachings of Islam will be a lesson to all.
“This time, we have taken additional steps to distribute food packs to not only vulnerables but also members of the public,” he said.
He reeled out some of his achievements in his second term in office among which were; distribution of 3kg has cylinder to 1000 residents, construction of boreholes to all the wards in Ikorodu central.
He also added the construction of Otambala, Obun-ale, Aga and construction of drainages, distribution of exercise books to pupils in all the primary schools, construction Perimeter fencing, computer unit for training teachers and students at Salvation Army primary school.
Earlier, Imam Shakirudeen Orilobamise, missioner of IRADAT appealed to Muslims faithfuls to give alms to thevpoor and vulnerables in the society to alleviate suffering and eradicate poverty.
Orilobamise also urged those who were fasting to desist from anything evil but be submissive, pray and follow the principle of Islam so Hod can show mercy on Nigeria.
He prayed for God’s guidance on the council boss for a successful tenure and appealed to beneficiaries to make use of the lesson learnt at the lecture.
“My prayer is for God to lead the chairman in his policies to successfully steer the affairs of Ikorodu LG.
“I want to appeal to our Muslim faithfuls not to go back to their sins because the essence of fasting is for forgiveness,” he said
Also speaking, Mr Lanre Balogun, Former Lagos state commissioner for Local government and Chieftancy affairs, said the council chairman has performer very well and live up to expection by meeting the needs of the people and projecting the agenda of All Progressive Congress party(APC).
Also, Alhaji Waheed Animashoun, the LGA party Chairman said the kind gesture is a testament the the chairman is aan of the people.
Elder Wole Ogunjimi, Chairman Community Development Committees applauded the chairman and urged him to be More.
Mrs Victoria Kolawole, a beneficiary, called on the chairman to make the distribution of food packa a quarterly affair so that many people can also benefit.
The beneficiaries also thanked the council boss for the kind gesture and warned other beneficiaries not to sell the food packs to people.
