CITIZENS COMPASS – SUSPECTED gunmen have opened fire on some policeman killing five of them in Imo State.
The gunmen also killed a couple during the incident which occurred on Friday, April 21, 2023, at Okpala junction in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of the State.
The late couple were identified as Mr and Mrs Chinaka Nwagu, both natives of Amankwo Okpala community.
It was gathered that the slain policemen had left their Abo Mbaise police Division to eat at a junction when they met their untimely death.
Citizens Compass learnt that the gunmen drove to the scene and opened fire on them.
An eye witness said that while three of the policemen were shot dead on the spot, two others ran to a nearby restaurant, but the assailannts trailed and shot them dead including the couple who operated the shop where the policemen were taking refuge.
The eyewitness added that after killing the policemen, the gunmen took away their riffles.
Spokesperson, Osun State Police Command, ASP Henry Okoye, did not respond to repeated calls.
The incident came less than a month after gunmen ambushed and killed five personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the the area.
