CITIZENS COMPASS–Some gunmen have reportedly attacked some travellers, raped one of them and shot a driver along the Ife-Akure expressway, Osun State.
The travellers who were onboard of a commercial bus and car along Ife-Akure expressway were said to have taken off from Lagos when their attackers forcefully stopped their vehicles towards Ilesa before Osu.
The incident occurred on Wednesday along Ife-Akure expressway.
Some of the travellers were said to have escaped into the bush and alerted security operatives about the robbery along Ife-Akure expressway
As gathered by Citizens Compass, the armed wielding men were eight in number when they launched the attack dispossessing their victims of personal effects and cash along Ife-Akure expressway.
One of the travellers who pleaded anonymity said the female victim was raped in the car and the driver of the passenger-bus was shot when the incident occurred along Ife-Akure expressway.
“The driver of the bus was shot but not killed. He was injured. One of the passengers in the car, a woman was raped. Money on us was forcefully taken. They collected all our ATM cards and made us transfer various amounts of money into their accounts.
“Some of us that escaped into the bush alerted security men. Not long after, policemen, vigilantes, members of Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service arrived and they began to comb the area.
“Few minutes later, they arrested one of the robbers- a man. But others have fled. They took him away. The driver of the bus I was travelling in was rushed to a hospital in Ile-Ife where he is currently receiving treatment”.
Contacted, the Acting spokesperson, Osun State Police Command, Emmanuel Giwa-Alade, on Thursday, confirmed that one of the armed robbers was arrested inside the surrounding bushes along Ife-Akure expressway.
He said the arrested suspect was helping with the investigation while the injured victims have been taken to hospital for treatment.
