A POLICE inspector in Orlu, Imo State, was reportedly killed on Thursday night after some unknown gunmen attacked a station in the area.
The armed men were said to have invaded the station, rained bullets on the personnel, and set the facility ablaze.
Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Mike Abattam, in a statement on Friday, said that three of the assailants were killed.
He said the armed men threw explosives and petrol bombs on top of the roof of Orlu Police station, damaging the roof and other items in the station.
The statement reads, “Three of them were neutralized and their guns, one pump action gun, and two locally-made double barrel pistols were recovered during the operation while others escaped into the bush with bullet injuries.
“Unfortunately, a Police Inspector lost his life in the attack.”
