Group launches local mobile App

CITIZENS COMPASS–A local brand mobile App, Fare, for Africans was yesterday, launched in Lagos by African friends.
The event which was conducted by Education Department of the brand
Was held at the University of Lagos Multipurpose hall, Lagos State.
The Citizens Compass reports that Afree was a local mobile brand App that specialised on social network of the future.
Unveiling the mobile App, the Nigerian National Coordinator, Dr Joshua Orabiyi said that the mobile App was an initiative from a group of friends who decided to build an application that would require less internet usage.
Orabiyi, a lecturer said that the mobile App required less of everything to function which the African friends who are experts in their field taught within themselves that it would serve Nigerian who really required it.
He said that it could function with minimum data, in rural areas to provide video communication, conferencing, direct phone conferencing, messaging and also has the moneytisations aspect.
He said that the major benefits was that it could thrive in areas where there is less data.
He said that the product was a local brand for Africans, developed by Africans that could reunite their course.
The guest speaker, Dr Temitope Alakija, Yabatech said that social media was an essential part of our life.
Alakija said that every average person in the world could not do without using social media which also has positive and negative impacts.
She said that an individual could decide which of the impacts to stick with and enumerated some of the negative impacts as comparison and envy, cyber bullying, addiction and body image issues.
Alakija also enumerated the positive impacts as self expression, access to information and resources, connection with like minded individuals, enhance creativity and build businesses.
Speaking, the commissioner for Youths and Social development, Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende said that the launching of the app shows that our economy was growing and poised a positive hope among Nigerian youths.
Ogunlende who was represented by Mr Oluwaseun Otayemi said that if such a development was coming from Africans, all should be glad that it was happening within our locality.
He however urged government to create an enabling environment for Nigerian entrepreneur noting that some of the features in App development are not available.
