Group canvasses support for re-election of Tokunbo Abiru
A GROUP of politicians and technocrats across Ikorodu- East Senatorial District has commenced the rallying support of stakeholders for the re-election of Senator Tokunbo Abiru, the Senator representing the District at the Red chamber of the National Assembly.
The group, under the aegis of Abiru Consolidation Team (ACT), it would be recalled formally endorsed the performing senator few weeks back, through a press statement published on various media platforms.
Addressing members of the group at its formal inauguration ceremony in Ikorodu, Omo’ba ‘Peju Akinyemi, Convener of the group stated that the vision of the group was to propagate the good works of the Senator across Lagos East and to mobilize support for his re-election to the Senate in 2023.
Omo’ba Akinyemi further explained that the formal inauguration of the group was to further demonstrate the commitment of the group to the twin task, making it the first group to endorse the former Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of a bank who turned Senator and the first to start mobilizing support for his re-election.
According to Akinyemi, “the Abiru Consolidation Team (ACT) is a child of necessity, created for the twin purpose of propagating the #DoingGood activities of Senator Abiru across Lagos East Senatorial District and for mobilisation of support for his re-election to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“We are a political support Group, committed to the success and re-election of Abiru into the Senate for a second term in office. This is a task we believe must be pursued and accomplished to ensure the current tempo of quality and effective representation in Lagos East is sustained”, he noted.
Speaking on the composition of the Group, he explained that, “our Group is made up of a mixture of practising and aspiring politicians as well as technocrats whose sole interest is to support the Senator to succeed in his current position”.
In demonstration of its unalloyed commitment to the task, the group said it has embarked upon the formal endorsement of Abiru’s second term in office, through a press release and Creation of WhatsApp Group platforms which was meant to further promote his activities and engagements with key stakeholders across Lagos East.
He said it has also commenced a Weekly Senator Abiru Consolidation Team (ACT) Political Quiz competition, with handsome rewards for winners.
Afterwards the group said it intends to launch a massive publicity campaign for the re-election of the distinguished senator, using traditional and new media platforms, ahead of the 2023 general elections.
In the same vein, the Co-Convener of the Group, Mr Shakiru Seidu, who also doubles as the Media Director, said Senator Abiru’s unprecedented performance, plus his passionate responses to the yearnings of his senatorial district, were beyond measure.
Seidu added that the decision to endorse Senator Abiru for a second term was taken after going through his robust achievements within the first 16 months in office. He commended Senator Abiru for sound delivery of dividends of democracy across the local governments of the Lagos East Senatorial District.
“We, as constituents, have seen the good works of Senator Abiru. He has been a focused, committed and resilient leader. In fact, Abiru has shown consistent leadership style since his got into the National Assembly. We are so pleased with his display of great sense of courage, steadfastness and tenacity of purpose.” Seidu affirmed.
He further admonished people of the East Senatorial to ensure that they get their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) and return Senator Tokunbo Abiru to the Senate in 2023.
Similarly, Secretary of the group, Prince Adedoyin Jokotex stressed that, the group’s support, endorsement and mobilization of support for Abiru was a way of reciprocating his sterling performance in less than two years in office, urging all residents and stakeholders of Lagos East Senatorial District to follow suit.
A major highlight of the event was the aministering of oath-of-allegiance on representatives of the group from the 16 local Councils across the Lagos East Senatorial District.
