CITIZENS COMPASS— A wedding ceremony in Nairobi, Kenya, has ended up in disarray following the disappearance of the groom from the event.
It was learnt that the intending couple started their relationship on Facebook only for the groom to disappear from the ceremony owing to a huge debt which he claimed was necessitated by the wedding plans.
The supposed bride, Maitri Mangala, narrated her painful story to her fans.
The mother of Two, who had faced numerous hardships in her life, detailed the series of events that led to her current plight.
Mangala’s troubles began after her previous marriage ended due to abuse. Reflecting on her past, she said, “I had a challenging upbringing since I lost my parents at an early age. I met a man whom I thought would provide the parental care I never received, but I was wrong. After giving birth to two children, it became clear that the
marriage was very abusive and difficult.
This left me in tears, and I decided to part ways with him and move to Nairobi.”
Starting anew life in Nairobi, Kenya.
Mangala initially sold beer before taking on various casual jobs to support her family. “I started experiencing difficulties in buying food and paying rent. It dawned on me that I was jeopardizing my own life. I made a commitment to myself not to return to the father of my children. As a result, I quit working at a bar and took up casual jobs washing other people’s clothes. My daughter had just started primary school, so I rented a different house. Despite the increased expenses, I promised myself to keep pushing forward.”
In her quest for a better life, Mangala met a man on Facebook who presented himself as a high-ranking soldier with a luxurious lifestyle. He frequently messaged her, sent photos of his beautiful villa, and made generous donations to her church.
“He was charming and polite, spoke with conviction and kindness, and seemed reliable and generous. I thought I had found the perfect partner.”
Convinced of his sincerity, Mangala introduced him to her pastor and aunt, both of whom were impressed by his demeanor. However, the man’s requests for money for wedding preparations and home-building loans began to raise suspicions. Despite these red flags, Mangala continued to trust him, even borrowing money from friends and family to fund the wedding.
“He was always so convincing. Whenever he asked for money, he would say it was for our wedding preparations or to pay off a loan for our future home. He assured me that all his payments were going directly towards paying off the loan, and I never questioned him because I truly believed in our future together. I introduced him to our pastor, who also admired his personality, and my aunt, who approved of him despite a few red flags.”
On their wedding day, however, the man disappeared, leaving Maitri with a mountain of debt and a shattered dream.
