Government bans illegal levies, touting

CITIZENS COMPASS—Imo State Government on Tuesday, banned touting and all forms of illegal levies across the State.

To this effect, the state government also set up a task force to enforce this by going after unauthorized individuals, groups and agencies who are found guilty of this.

This was contained in a press statement from the office of the secretary of the State Government, Cosmas Iwu, which stated that the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is authorised to collect approved levies from residents.

The statement said the IRS officers have been counselled to always be civil in the execution of their lawful duties, warning that Governor Hope Uzodinma has approved the ban on touting and the collection of illegal levies in the state, henceforth.

“All government agencies involved in collection of levies in whatever form should liaise with the Imo State Internal Revenue Service, while those charged with the job of the control of traffic should concentrate on their duties and refrain from the extortion of motorists” he said.
