Gas explosion hits Lagos, four injured
CITIZENS COMPASS – Four persons have sustained varying degrees of injuries during a gas explosion at Ijaiye, beside an old generation church in Agege area of Lagos State.
Thankfully, there was no loss of life during the early morning explosion on Monday.
It was learnt that the incident occurred in a shop which stored gas cylinders unknown to the owner that there was a leakage.
Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed the incident to Citizenscompass.
He said, “On arrival at the incident scene, it was discovered that a shop stored with gas cylinders caught fire.
” Investigation conducted by the LRT revealed that one of the gas cylinder got exploded as a result of gas leakage and in the process caught fire, affecting the shop whilst other shops and adjoining buildings were salvaged
” No loss of life, however 4 adults (3 female) and an adult male sustained various degrees of injuries (second degree burns)as a result of the incident and been attended to by the Agency’s pre hospital care, alongside LASAMBUS .
The victims has also been moved to Lagos University Teaching Hospital LASUTH
“The inferno has been completely put out by the combined effort of LASEMA LRT, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
” A post-incident assessment was conducted by the Agency’s LRT alongside LASG Fire. The shop has been cordoned to avert secondary incidents.”
As at 8a.m, he said. “Operation concluded and the LRT heading back to base.”
