Gas explosion hits Lagos building
CITIZENS COMPASS–A gas explosion has hit a building located at 9, Abiodun Aina Street, Abule Tailor bus stop in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred at about 1800hrs on Wednesday.
Emergency responders in the State razed to the scene of the incident and doused the explosion.
Fortunately there was no loss of life or injuries.
Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said in a statement signed by spokesperson, Nosa Okunbor,
“In response to distress calls received by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, through the 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency lines at 1805hrs, the Agency activated it’s Dolphin Response Team from Igando Base.
“Upon arrival of the Dolphin Team at the incident scene, it was observed that the gas explosion occurred in a building comprising two shops and two rooms, which resulted in a raging fire that engulfed the entire structure.
“Fortunately, there were no occupants in the building as of the time of the incident.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire started from the gas shop and quickly spread to the rest of the building.
●No casualties, nor injuries were recorded due to the incident.
●Safety Measures were activated to ensure safety of responders at the incident scene during the operation.
●LRT coordinated the operation in collaboration with the LASG Fire and Rescue officials.
●Combined efforts of response agencies successfully extinguished the fire.
●The situation has been brought under control. Dampening down operation is over.
●Rescue and Recovery operations concluded.
In attendance were LASEMA Response Team, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC).
