Funke Akindele loses polling unit to APC in Ikorodu

CITIZENS COMPASS – THE Deputy Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Funke Akindele has lost her polling unit to All Progressives Party (APC) which pulled 78 votes with PDP having 19 votes at PU 019, Ita-Aro area of Ikorodu during the Gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

So far, the elections were peaceful in some of the polling centers visited by our Correspondent in Ikorodu though it was observed that many of the Polling Units experienced low turnout of voters.

In some of the places visited, it was observed that election materials arrived at the earlier compare with the presidential election.

 

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) arrived early at some of the polling units and the exercise was concluded early due to the turn out of voters.

APC candidate applauds INEC on peaceful conduct, urges youths to shun violence

Similarlly, the candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress( APC) for Ikorodu constituency 11, Mr Gbolahan Ogunleye, has applauded INEC and urged youths to shun electoral violence.

Ogunleye made the call on Saturday after casting his vote at about 12:30pm at polling unit 012 Solomade area of Ikorodu in Lagos.

He said that violence can disrupt the electoral process and urged the electorate to perform their civic responsibility stressing that the turnout is relatively low compared to the presidential election.

“INEC officials came early and the process has been peaceful. Voters turnout is low compared to two weeks ago.

My advice to citizens is to come out and vote, we shouldn’t shy away from discharging our civic responsibility,” he said.
