CITIZENS COMPASS- FOUR construction workers have been rescued while a yet-to-be ascertained number were trapped in a building collapsed in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.
This occured on Saturday, September 17, 2022.
The South South Zonal Office of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), which confirmed said it occurred at about 6:30pm.
NEMA said the building was located behind a new generation bank on Akah Road by Plaza.
Further information said it collapsed on a bungalow.
Godwin Tepikor, Akwa Ibom Coordinator, NEMA in his updates said, “4 persons have earlier been rescued. Number of persons trapped is not yet ascertained. Secretary to State Government, Akwa Ibom SEMA, Fire service, Police, FRSC, RED CROSS are on ground. Excavator has arrived for rescue.
“Some persons are said to be trapped in the bungalow.”
Search and rescue has commenced at press time.
