CITIZENS COMPASS – Five persons were dead while one was injured near the FATGBEMS bus stop along the Ogun State axis of the Lagos Ibadan Expressway.
The accident occurred on Sunday night involving an unidentified Mercedes Benz SUV whose driver was heading inward Mowe.
It was learnt that upon reaching the FATGBEMS bus stop by Longbridge, the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle, crashed into the culvert, and flipped over, landing in the opposite direction.
Five occupants of the car were said to have lost their lives while the sixth was injured.
Spokesperson, Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola confirmed the accident to newsnen in a statement signed on Monday.
She said, “A tragic motor accident occurred on January 19, 2025, around 11:30 PM. near the FATGBEMS bus stop along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway. The incident was reported by the divisional police officer of Warewa, involving a reckless driver of an unidentified Mercedes Benz SUV.
“The accident took place as the driver was heading towards Mowe. Upon reaching the FATGBEMS bus stop by Longbridge, the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle, crashed into the culvert, and flipped over, landing in the opposite direction.
“As a result, three male and two female adults inside the SUV were confirmed dead, and one passenger sustained injuries. The roof of the vehicle was completely torn off.
“The vehicle was extensively damaged. Traffic police promptly arrived at the scene. Photographs were taken, and the injured individual was transported to AZ Carezone Hospital in Magboro for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased were taken to Real Divine Hospital in Ibafo for preservation.
“The wrecked vehicle has been secured at the police station for safekeeping.
“Family members of those involved in the fatal incident have been notified.
“The Ogun State Police Command urges all road users to exercise caution and drive carefully.”
