Fire guts National Arts Theatre 

... Cows, goats dead

 

CITIZENS COMPASS —A section of the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos State, was gutted by fire on weekend which resulted in an explosion. 

This occurred at about 21:30 hours though thre was prompt response by emergency responders. 

It affected a bungalow as many 50kg gas cylinders were razed. 

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed this to Citizens Compass at about 12.08a.m on Sunday, December 31, 2023. 

According to his updates, the incident did not record injuries or deaths. 

“The Agency received a distress call at 21:49hrs and activated the Lagos State Emergency Response Plan. 

“The LASEMA Response Team from Onipanu arrived at the incident scene at 22:00hrs record time. 

“Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, a section of the National Arts Theater, Iganmu, Lagos, was found gutted by fire reportedly caused by gas explosions. 

“Fortunately, no lives were lost and no injuries were sustained to anyone, as a result of the incident. 

“However, the fire destroyed many 50 kilograms gas cylinders, along with a bungalow comprising three offices.

“Further, four big cows and two rams were burnt to ashes, while the affected area has been cordoned off for further investigation.

“Status: The fire has been brought under control by joint efforts of responders; the LRT, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, and the Federal Fire Service.

  • Post Disaster Assessment concluded. 
  • No more threats from the fire. 
  • Operation concluded. 

“Responders included the LASEMA Response Team, LASAMBUS, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, the Federal Fire Service, LASTMA, Nigerian Police Force officers and LNSC officers.

“LASEMA Response Team from Onipanu, heading back to Base.”

The Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye also confirmed the incident sayinng four cows and two goats were recovered from the scene of the incident.
