Ethnic clash breaks out in Lagos market
CITIZENS COMPASS —The popular Oluwole Market in. Ogba, Ojodu Local Council Development Area of Lagos became a commotion scene on Friday, February 23, 2024, following an ethnic clash in the area.
The clash reportedly broke out between Yoruba and Hausa traders.
Problem started in the morning when one Abbey, a Yoruba man, intervened in a dispute between Hausa traders late Thursday night but was stabbed by an unidentified assailant resulting in his demise.
The death was said to have sparked another round of violence which erupted on Friday.
An eyewitness, Mr Seyinde Agbomabiwom, said some traders from a particular tribe unleashed terror on their opposition and this resulted in counter – attacks.
He said the fight disrupted commercial and vehicular movement for some hours as residents and road users took to their heels but police were quick enough to respond to distress calls.
At press time, normalcy has returned.
