Driver escapes as Dangote truck collides with BRT 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS–A truck driver with Dangote Group of companies on Sunday, escaped the scene of an accident after the truck rammed into a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor and collided with one of the buses around the Ketu area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred in the morning  when the Dangote truck was journeying inward Mile 12.

The swift response by emergency responders saved many passengers of the bus from the unforseen when the Dangote truck collided with it.

It was learnt that the ill-fated Dangote truck with number plate, GML 730 XX, was laden with some bags of cement when the incident occurred around Demurin Junction.

Fortunately, no life was lost or injuries sustained.

The driver of the Dangote truck was said to have escaped the scene for fear of being attacked by hoodlums.

Confirming the accident, spokesperson, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofik, said, “Earlier this afternoon, another Dangote truck (GML 730 XX) fully loaded with cements collided with the BRT corridor at Demurin Junction, heading towards Mile 12. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. 

“The accident occurred due to brake failure, as the truck, moving at high speed, veered into the BRT lane while the driver ran away with the thought that he had rammed on commuters. 

“No casualties were recorded as the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) rescue team swiftly arrived at the scene to manage the situation with LRU team, Officers from the Ketu Police Station provided security support during the rescue operations.

“The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, urged truck drivers to adhere to the speed limits clearly indicated on road signs provided by the Lagos State Government.”
