Dele Farotimi released from prison

CITIZENS COMPASS – After weeks of being remanded at the correctional service, a Lagos-based human rights activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi, has regained his freedom from the correctional service after meeting his bail conditions.

Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), shared the information on his X Handle on Tuesday.

The post announced that Farotimi was freed from the Ekiti prison and was on his way back to his home in Lagos. It reads, “I am pleased to report that Dele Farotimi is no longer being held at the prison yards in Ekiti state and is now returning home to Lagos. The struggle continues!”

Farotimi had been arrested earlier in December on charges of defaming Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and founder of Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) in Ado Ekiti.

A few days ago, a Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti granted him bail, setting the amount at ₦30 million.
