Dele Farotimi: Police issue fresh directive in Ekiti

CITIZENS COMPASS – To avoid any form of protest against arrest of a Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, Ekiti State Police Command on Friday, banned all forms of unlawful gatherings, demonstrations, sale and use of fireworks across the state,

Spokesperson for the Command, Abutu Sunday, in a statement urged the public to comply with the directive.

“Any form of unlawful gathering, demonstration, or protest is unacceptable,” the statement declared, adding that intelligence reports indicate plans by some individuals to exploit protests to incite violence and create panic.

“The command urged parents and guardians to counsel their wards against actions that could disrupt the peace and security of the state. “Anyone who runs foul of this directive will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” the statement warned.

“The use of various fireworks at times creates panic and confusion as it could be difficult to differentiate their sounds from real gunshots.”

The directive underscores the police command’s proactive approach to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment during the festive season and beyond.

Citizens Compass reported that Farotimi was arrested on Tuesday and was arraigned yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Command had filed fresh charges against human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, before the Federal High Court In Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, over allegations of cybercrime.

The state police command had made the filing on Friday.

Sources said this was in a plot to frustrate the human rights lawyer’s bail application and keep him in remand.
