CITIZENS COMPASS – Dele Farotimi, the Lagos-based human rights lawyer, has been granted bail to the time of N50m on Monday.
The Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, granted the bail.after he fulfilled his bail conditions.
The Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) during the 2023 election, Omoyele Sowore, disclosed the court’s decision via his X handle.
He said, “The first hurdle was crossed. #DeleFarotimi was granted bail of N50 million surety in the like sum with someone with landed property. The case was adjourned to January 29, 2025.”
The ₦50 million was alongside a surety of equal value.
The surety must also possess landed property as part of the bail conditions.
Until the bail was granted, the social media was awash with protests as supporters o f Dele Farotimi have consistently rallied for his freedom under the hashtag #FreeDeleFarotimiNow.
The case has been adjourned to the 29th of January, 2025, where further deliberations will take place.
According to a human rights activist, Isaac Obasi, Dele Farotimi’s situation has drawn widespread attention, sparking debates on the justice system and the rights of citizens. As the next court date looms, activists and supporters are urging for fairness and justice to prevail.
They have continued to express solidarity, underscoring the importance of standing by voices that challenge the status quo and advocate for the rights of the people.

Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Radical Agenda Movement in the Nigerian Bar Association (RAMINBA), Ayodele Ademiluyi, has appeared in the Defence team of Dele Farotimi on behalf of RAMINBA.
where Farotimi is añ active member. The Federal High Court, Ado Ekiti Division arraigned Farotimi on 12 count charge bordering on disseminating online information that can cause breakdown of law and order.
S.O. Osobu Esq appeared for the Prosecution. He applied for the charge to be read to the Defendant. Professor Festus Emiri SAN leading Ralph Nwoke Esq and Ayodele Ademiluyi Esq appeared for Dele Farotimi.
Upon the charge being read to him, Dele Farotimi pleaded not guilty . The Prosecution applied for him to be remanded in custody of Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre, where he has since been remanded by the Magistrate Court upon his arraignment on Thursday before his arraignment.
Professor Festus Emiri SAN applied that the Defendant be granted bail on liberal terms being a legal practitioner. The Court there upon granted bail to the Defendant with one surety , 50 million naira bail bond in like sum, with a built residence in Ekiti State , title deed to be furnished and 4 passport photographs of the Defendant and Surety with the Defendant ‘s International Passport to be furnished to the Court.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to 29th January, 2024.
While the Defence Team is perfecting the bail, it is also prepared to appear in the Magistrate Court matter for next adjournment date..
