CITIZENS COMPASS—The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Lagos State, Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, on Monday, applauded residents of the area for maintaining peace and shunning the ongoing nationwide protest.

He gave the during a chat with our Correspondent at the council secretariat.

The Chairman acknowledged the efforts of security agents, community leaders and youths in ensuring tranquility during the nationwide protests noting that President Bola Tinubu had, in his nationwide broadcast on Sunday enjoined the organisers of the protests to suspend further actions and create room for dialogue.

According to him, the peaceful conduct of Ikorodu residents is a reflection of the significant improvement from past experiences, especially the 2020 #EndSARS protest, where lives and property were destroyed.

“I want to sincerely applaud the residents of Ikorodu for demonstrating understanding and not partaking in the ongoing protests.

“Protests are mostly hijacked by hoodlums for their personal interests, that is, to steal and destroy the country’s monuments.

“Lots of lessons were learnt from previous chaotic events, leading to more effective management of such situations.

“I appeal to the organisers to embrace dialogue, as urged by the president when he addressed Nigerians on Sunday,” he said.

Adesina re-assured the community of his commitment to upholding peace and addressing concerns that might arise during such times.
