CITIZENS COMPASS – Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government in Lagos State,  has reiterated the council’s commitment to provide quality infrastructure and affordable health care services for communities in the area.

He made the promises on on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at a stakeholders meeting and commencement of the rehabilitation of Agura Primary Health Care (PHC) centre in Ikorodu.

Provision of good primary health care is part of our campaign promises as a dividend of democracy to the people.

“I was part of the executive members who initiated the PHC 30 years ago; today I am proud to give it a face-lift as the council’s chairman.

“I will build a befitting medical laboratory centre in addition to facilitating medical tests to serve the community.

“The project will be handed over to the health management committee after completion for proper maintenance because they are in charge of maintaining PHCs,” he said

Adesina commended the residents for their support and believing in his administration.

He also appreciated Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his intervention on the reconstruction of the second phase of Ijede to Agura Gberigbe road.

The chairman said that the road would allow the council to identify other places that needed urgent government’s attention.

The chairman appealed to the community leaders to provide a land where a police post would be sited for security personnel to be able to curtail crimes and criminalities in the area.

“We appreciate the governor for the ongoing Igbodu to Agura road construction work which is a landslide for the people.

“Once the road is completed, other places will be looked into.  As per security, the Joint Task Force (JTF) had already been deployed to secure the community.

“I appreciate the monarchs, councillors, supervisor and leadership of All Progressives Congress for ensuring a seamless inauguration,” he said.

Speaking, Dr Dayo Lajide, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State PHC District 2, urged community leaders to encourage residents to make good use of the centre.

Lajide urged women and children to particularly make use of the centre for maternal health care and immunisation.

She said that during her appointment, Sanwo-Olu charged her to ensure that universal health coverage got to all the areas of district.

The permanent secretary said that this was in addition to more work that would be carried out in all PHCs across Shomolu, Ikorodu and Imota.

Dr Ramat Odesesan, Head, Medical Health Office of Ikorodu commended the chairman for his open door policy and listening to the outcry of the people on PHC in fulfillment of his campaign promises to them.

The Oba Almoroof Olalekan, the Alagura of Agura, thanked the state government and the executive chairman for their intervention by bringing succor to the residents on health care and other amenities.

He promised to support the administration and appealed for more intervention on road construction to alleviate the hardship being faced by commuters in the community.
