Council boss advises retirees against idleness

CITIZENS COMPASS – THE Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government,  Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, advised retirees not to be idle, but engage themselves with  things that would keep them active, after service.

Adesina gave the advice during a programme to celebrate retirees of the council at the local government secretariat in Ikorodu.

The Citizens Compass reports that the programme was organised to celebrate those who retired between 2014 and 2023.

“Retirement is not the end of the road as there is a whole new life ahead, full of new experiences and expectations.

“Retiring from the workforce is a time you see life as a daring adventure.

“It is just another re-invention; another chance to do new things and create a new version of yourself,” he said.

The chairman said his administration was committed to the  welfare of staff and had given priority to the well-being  of workers.

He said his administration had demonstrated the commitment with  renovation of staff offices , general improvement of  the working environment , and timely payment of staff monthly allowances .

Adesina added that his administration had renovated Agura Primary Health Centre in Ikorodu,  and the council area office ,to enable workers to have access to better healthcare services and to guarantee their comfort.

He lauded  Adenike Mabodu, Chairman National Union of Local Government Employee(NULGE)  in Ikorodu,snd other union officials, for their  support and contribution towards the development of the area.

“Celebrating you, your great impact at your respective offices cannot be over-emphasised and I promise to engage some of you as consultants  to my administration.

“Today is a day to celebrate because some of your colleagues(retirees) never lived to witness this ceremony,” Adesina said.

Speaking earlier, Mr Muri Okunola, Lagos State Head of Service urged workers yet to retire to commence planning for their retirement six months ahead .

Represented by Mr Biola Ayorinde,Okunola  commended the chairman for organising the programme  and advised the retirees to  monitor their health and take proper care of themselves.

In her remarks ,the NULGE chairman urged the retirees to take good care of their health, manage the little money  with them , and engage in exercise to keep fit.

She commended the chairman for organising the programme  for the retirees.

“I  urge all the retirees to manage the little stipends received today and take care of their health knowing full well there is no more salary alerts,” she said.

Mr Adesanya Olatunde, a retiree advised those in active service to start planning for their retirement ,saying  early plan is better. 

He also urged them to use the money given to them  by the council chairman wisely.

Citizens Compass  reports that gifts and an undisclosed amount of money were given to each of retirees at the programme.
