Confusion as Deputy President slumps during ceremony

CITIZENS COMPASS–The attendees at a public event in South Africa were on Saturday, thrown into confusion as the Deputy President of the country, Paul Mashatile, slumped while speaking at the event.

The Deputy President slumped in the afternoon in Tzaneen, Limpopo,  during a ceremony commemorating the inauguration of a local traditional leader, where Mashatile reportedly struggled with the intense heat.

According to the Limpopo provincial government, the Deputy President was swiftly attended to and later regained his consciousness.

He was said to be in stable condition thereafter.

Limpopo Premier, Phophi Ramathuba, who is also a medical doctor, was present at the event and reassured the public that there was no cause for alarm.

“The Deputy President is fine and is being taken care of by his medical team. I was with him, and he’s in good hands. There is no need to worry,” Ramathuba said in a statement.

Mashatile had been addressing the gathering when he collapsed due to the heat, but quick medical attention ensured his well-being. He is now recovering under the supervision of his medical team.

A video from the event captured the Deputy President losing concentration while presenting his address and thereafter lost consciousness and collapsed.

The video also captured two men promptly running to his aide, lifted him from the floor and carried him out of the hall probably for medical attention.
