Commissioner of Police visits 12-year-old student tear gassed by officers  

CITIZENS COMPASS —Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Fayoade Adegoke, has visited the 12-year-old student who was a victim of teargas canisters allegedly fired by some policemen from Dopemu Division of the Command. 

Spokesman of the Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, posted the information on his verified X handle on Friday, February 16, 2024. 

He said, “The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni, has paid a visit to 12-year-old Amina Alege who was allegedly hit by a teargas canister fired by officers of Dopemu Division while responding to public disturbance by students of Abibat Mogaji Millenium Secondary School Iloro and Iloro Junior Grammar School Iloro both in Dopemu on Friday, February 9, 2024. 

“Meanwhile, CP Fayoade has ordered a detailed investigation into the incident, the outcome of which will be made available to members of the public. 

“The Lagos State Police Command assures the general public that the investigation will be comprehensive and investigation will be comprehensive and no attempt whatsoever will be made at a cover-up; while equally assuring that any police officer found culpable in the matter will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”

Citizens Compass had reported that the 12-year-old student of Adamu Yakubu Memorial High School, Iloro, Cement ,Agege Lagos State, is currently battling with her life after she was hit by teargas canisters allegedly fired by men of Alabode Police Station when two neighbouring schools in Lagos were embroiled in a fight. 

Some right activists have since condemned the incident calling on Lagos State Police Command for justice. 

A member of Committee for Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Comrade Seyi A of Metro Unit, Ikeja, is currently crying for justice over the incident. 

According to him, the incident occurred while some policemen were responding to distress calls from the School. 

In a letter titled, “Request for urgent intervention to save the life of a 12 – year-old school girl who was a victim of Police recklessness, “ he called on stakeholders to support the ailing student. 

Similarly, Lagos State House of Assembly has written the state Commissioner for health to step into the matter.
