CITIZENS COMPASS —A 10-year-old boy simply identified as Chukwudi, was reportedly crushed to death, on Sunday, March 3, 2024, by a Nissan Coastal bus along the Orile Mile 2 Expressway in Lagos.
The incident occurred at the Doyin Bus stop when the commercial bus with a number plate, JJE 134 XK, was at top speed.
It was learned that Chukwudi was on his way to church alongside his father, Bernard when the tragedy struck at about 7: 30a. m.
Chukwudi, whose skull was smashed by the bus, was said to have died on the spot.
The father who reported the incident to Police said, “We were on our way to church this morning when the accident happened. My son and I were standing at the culvert when the driver who was at high speed hit my son and smashed his skull.”
Confirming the incident the Spokesperson Lagos State Police Command SP Benjamin Hundeyin said: “On the receipt of the complaint the DPO moved to the scene with operatives, but in the course of evacuating the corpse some miscreants attacked them with stones and bottles and the officers were able to repel them after the patrol teams came for reinforcement.”
In a related development, an unregistered Bus Rapid Transit(BRT) has reportedly crushed a five-year-old boy to death in the Palmgrove area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at about 1: 30p. m.
It was gathered that the boy identified as Maliki alongside his mother, Rofiat, and sibling Basit, were crossing the BRT lane inward Onipanu when they were knocked down by the BRT driven by a hit-and-run driver, Sunday Bukola.
Rofiat and Basit were said to be rushed to the hospital where they are currently receiving treatment for various degrees of injuries.
Confirming the incident, the Spokesperson said: “The corpse has been evacuated and deposited at the mortuary. The driver was later arrested and is in police custody. The investigation is ongoing.”
