Budget stakeholder forum: Ikorodu LG reaffirms commitment to infrastructural development

CITIZENS COMPASS – The Executive chairman, Ikorodu Local Government,(LG) Mr Wasiu Adesina, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development and leaving a legacy of an advanced governance model in the area.

Adesina stated this during the budget stakeholder consultative forum at the council secretariat in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The council chairman said his administration would invest massively on infrastructural development with an inclusive governance that would reflect transparency, accountability and community collective vision.

“We converge here to deliberate on a budget that will shape the aspirations of Ikorodu LG for 2025.

“As my tenure is winding-up, I am deeply committed to leaving a legacy of an advanced governance model and our community’s collective vision.

“In this era of rapid change, the need to consolidate our efforts and chart a course toward sustainable development cannot be overstated,” he said.

Adesina highlighted some of his achievements in 2024 which includes; completion over 14 roads and drainages, rehabilitation of all the inner roads, renovation and reenactment of the Agura Primary Health Care(PHC) centres.

He added that his administration has engage in periodic distribution of relief packages including food items, filled gas cylinders, and partnership with waste management facilities as a means to turn waste to wealth for the people of Ikorodu.

According to him, the council has engaged in partnership through public-private initiatives to empower youths on fully sponsored international agricultural training for indigenous youths in the United Kingdom(UK), digital skill, web development tools, hand skills in hairdressing and fashion designing training and so on.

The stakeholders express gratitude to the chairman for a well done job and provision of impactful projects across the community.

Earlier, Kayode Olomo, Baale of Ojogbe, who spoke on behalf of the traditional leaders advised the council boss to go back and consolidate on all the projects done by his administration in the past while physical challenge also appeals for inclusiveness.

Earlier in his address, Elder Oyesola Ogunjimi, Chairman of Community Development Committee(CDC), urged the council to withdraw the licence given to Community Development Associations that were not performing their duties and remit remittance back to the council.

In her remarks, Princess Bukola Isikalu, Iyaloja General of Ikorodu, appealed to the chairman to provide soft loans for Small and Medium Enterprises(SME’s) for market women and men and 25 percent reduction in the price of food in the 2025 budget.

Speaking earlier, Basit Ogunsanmi, National Youth Council of Nigeria(NYCN) urged the chairman to establish a skill acquisition centre to empower youths while the National union of Road Transport Workers(NURTW) requested for the establishment of a central park and to always carry them along in budget planning.

Alhaji Shamsudeen Longe, speaking APC party leader, advised the council to make provision for solar power and deploy security agents across all primary schools to curb theft by hoodlums and establish additional PHC in Agura.

In response, the chairman said all their requests had been noted while some had already been included in the budget planning with a promise to ensure they were all completed before his tenure wind-up.

The council boss promised to provide chairs and benches to four deserving primary schools across Ikorodu and lay the foundation of entertainment and cultural centres to preserve the community’s cultural heritage.

“We decided to work within available resources to give back to the community despite our meagre income.

“I implore residents to pay their taxes regularly for more projects and more dividends of democracy,” he said.
