Autocrash kills Ten passengers on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
CITIZENS COMPASS —No fewer than Ten passengers on Tuesday, lost their lives in an auto crash on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway when a commercial bus collided with a truck.
The incident occurred at the Kara Turning area, Ogun State axis at about 5:00 a.m.. Seven other passengers sustained injuries.
Spokesperson, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command, Florence Okpe, who confirmed the accident said two vehicles; an ash-coloured Toyota Hiace bus with number plate, FKY898YF; and an orange-coloured Iveco truck.
She said the probable cause of the crash was excessive speed.
According to her, the bus lost control and rammed into the tipper, which was about to turn.
She said: “The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital for medical attention while the dead were deposited at Idera Morgue, Sagamu.”
Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, described the crash as avoidable, had precautionary steps been taken. He also urged drivers to take a 15-minute rest after every four hours, adding that fatigue is often a major cause of road crashes.
Reacting, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) cautioned truck drivers against repairing broken down vehicles on the highway, to prevent accidents. It also urged them to desist from drunk driving and moving against the traffic.
