APCOM condemns “Igbo Must Go” campaign, hails Lagos government for swiftness
CITIZENS COMPASS—The Association of Practitioners of Community Media in Nigeria (APCOM) has applauded the Lagos State Government for its swift condemnation of the “Igbo Must Go” campaign perpetuated by a blogger known as Lagospedia.
APCOM condemned this hateful and inciting rhetoric saying it has no place in our society.
A statement signed yesterday, by Abayomi Adejumo, the National President of the Association, commends the State government’s proactive stance in addressing the issue.
It partly reads, “However, we urge the government to take further action by setting up an investigation to identify and bring to justice the instigators of this harmful campaign. Those responsible must face the full wrath of the law to serve as a deterrent to others who may seek to propagate hate and division.
“APCOM stands in solidarity with the Igbo community and all individuals who have been targeted by this vile campaign. We reiterate our commitment to promoting diversity, inclusivity, and community cohesion, and we will continue to work tirelessly to combat hate speech and promote peaceful coexistence.
“We commend the Lagos State Government for its leadership in this matter and look forward to seeing concrete actions taken to address this issue. Together, we can build a society that values and respects the dignity of all individuals, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, or background.”
